Broken Tooth Repair

 A young patient with trauma (accident) to his upper front tooth came in with pain. He had also chipped the other front tooth many years ago. The pain was because he had broken the tooth at a level that exposed the nerve tissue. A root canal and composite buildup (tooth colored filling) was done in the subsequent sittings for him. 

How did the patient get from a broken tooth to a tooth that was fixed and gave him back his smile?
